Dear Mr. Barsoumian:
I am writing to express my appreciation for your commitment to aid the FAIR Trade Group in educating members of the public in the work we do on their behalf. The fight we are waging to protect American collectors and sport shooters and their ability to access many highly collectable and valuable firearm parts and accessories from overseas must be understood: We need help.
Your challenge to match contributions made by your customers to our organization is remarkable and is an admirable way to encourage your customers to participate in protecting their access to many exiting and collectable firearms, parts and accessories.
FAIR serves as the voice for the importability of firearms—protecting firearms enthusiasts’ access to a world of interesting and desirable items. Through the years our work has had a direct impact on your customers’ ability to buy firearms, parts and accessories imported in the US.
We were founded 1994 when the ATF arbitrarily decided that no new licenses would be issued to import firearms into US — resulting in a total cessation of American’s access to any firearm made overseas. Few people realize how close we came to not being able to import firearms at all. Since that time we have fought to protect access to those items from overseas that your customers continue to demand.
As we look forward, it is clear the business community can no longer protect our customers without help. The ant-gun movement is getting savvy — they are not likely to seek open war in Congress next year for they know that is a difficult fight. Instead, we expect they will assail the firearms community through the regulatory process. Just like the need for ordinary citizens to understand the Second Amendment and the role it plays in protecting our individual right to own firearms, citizens must recognize that the fight reaches into the regulatory arena as well.
FAIR will be there; watching and working to protect the access we have today to the highly valuable and collectable goods your customers demand. Your help and support is greatly appreciated and I hope your customers understand the importance of what you are doing to help them and participate in this effort.
Sincerely,
Robert Talley
